The Queens of the Mississippi |
The "Queens of the Mississippi" are something everyone should have an opportunity to see at least once in their lifetime. The "Queens" I'm refering to are the Delta Queen, Mississippi Queen and the American Queen. Living near the Mississippi River has it's advantages. I've been very fortunate to see the "Queens" pass through this area many, many times. In fact, I've even been on the river fishing, boating or swimming when one of them has gone by. Several years ago, during my water skiing days, the wake from one of them flipped me head over heels over into the drink! Some time ago, Alene and I drove to Canton, Missouri, about 15 miles up river from Quincy, to watch the Mississippi Queen pass through the lock there. On our drive there, we drove into LaGrange and watched the "Queen" pass by the riverfront. Seeing the Mississippi Queen go through a lock and dam is always quite an experience, especially the first time you've see one of these classics.

In early October, 2001, the Delta Queen docked at Quincy and spent an afternoon here. Of course, Alene and I went to the riverfront to take in the proceedings. I got a few good pictures while there and here are a few of them.

- Getting ready to dock and tie up at Quincy's Clat Adams Park.
- The gangplank is just about ready to drop on the shore...
