A Canoe Trip into Long Island Lake

Long Island About five miles north of Quincy on the Mississippi River is a large island identified as "Long Island". The island is quite large, about ten miles long and maybe at it's widest about a three-fourths of a mile wide. There are several lakes located on this island and many channels leading into these lakes. The following are a few pictures I took while canoeing around in these lakes.

Just a note: Getting into the lakes on Long Island require that the river be above it's normal Lock 21 upper pool level of 12 feet. Many years ago, the lake was accessible at all times because the channels leading into them had plenty of water for either canoe or power boat. Currently, they are only accessible when the upper pool stage at Lock 21 is greater than 14 feet. If you wish to get into the lakes with a power boat, I suggest at least a 15 foot pool stage.
